Tried to push planes and contrast on this one.

  1. Good Wip. Value grouping is good. If you wanna pop and push values, try and add a very light light and a very dark dark and wipe out details you don't need. Better to go darker and lighter than what you see.

The main problem I see right away is that the centerline is off. If you're going to push planes, then the bottom base plane becomes more crucial. Also it needs to be more obvious if that's what you're going for. The planes shouldn't feel muddy. Draw through. It's a good habit to develop. I air draw things even when they're covered. It makes things come together. If I still don't like it, I just draw all the way through to work things out and erase. I know her neck is covered by her hair but there's enough info there to locate the pit of her neck. If you draw the base skull in, you have the neck connection to the rib cage. Right now it's very ambiguous.

Keep going man! If you can, I would recommend doing one of these on paper with some type of pencil. Master copies are the best. Pierre Prud'on is a good master to copy. You'll learn faster. It will simplify your process when you go back to digital.

  2. Thanks for the draw-over, Brian. I like how your ribcage shows the tilt and how you math out the knees. I was wondering the logic of the pelvis. Is the pentagon underneath the navel supposed to represent the belly fat? Or does it represent some part of the pelvis?

I think I'm beginning to understand the push and pull of anatomical structure vs. artistic interpretation of form. I hope you'll continue to critique more of my work. It is immensely helpful. Thanks again, man.

  3. Glad it helps. Sorry if it was not clear. That shape in the pelvis is where the belly/abs interlock or tuck in.
